Rajasthan-based Satyaveer Singh Randhawa works as a Junior Engineer with Lahkot Municipality’s Public Works Department and lives a middle-class lifestyle with his wife, Nimmi, and son, Raju. The region faces drought and extreme temperatures, with the local Irrigation Minister, PP Rathore, making tall promises of diverting water from Haryana and Punjab via a canal that is being constructed on a controversial site. Satyeveer also authored a fictional novel ‘Manorama’ that sold only about 200 copies. So dismayed was he with this that he decided to not even keep a copy for his private library. To make matters worse he accepts a motorbike from Seema Constructions as a bribe, is apprehended, and suspended pending an inquiry. Now out of a job, he is approached by Manorama Rathore, the wife of the Irrigation Minister, to collect evidence that her husband is having an extra-marital affair for a fee of Twenty thousand rupees. Satyaveer accepts this offer little knowing that he will soon be thrust into a web of lies and deceit, which will not only get him in the bad books of Rathore, assaulted by his goons, but also implicate him in the murder of two lovers, Sameera, and Dr. Anil Poddar, compounded all the more by the sudden death of Manorama and the disappearance of an orphan named Deepti.www.shemaroo.com

Amazing film! is very cute. The graphics and animation was intense! www.oneratshort.com “One Rat Short” is a work of love created by Charlex Films. It began as part of the effort to grow the company’s CG department but eventually became much more than that. Originally, it was entitled “labratz” and as the title might suggest it mimicked the look and sensibility of worked already pioneered by other studios. As it evolved it took on a life of its own- it became my film- or as any director of an effort like this knows our film. We decided not to use anthropomorphic animation. We decided it would take place in two worlds- one so gritty, grimy and dark that the viewer needs to peer into the screen in order to make out the images- the other a sterile, white world so brightly lit that you feel the need to turn your head away from the screen. It was also important to me to keep the film looking as real as possible. One of the techniques we used was to give a lot of the camera work a hand-held feel and to keep it a little behind the action so that the scenes didn’t seem staged. Lastly and most importantly I kept the story simple and tried to give it heart. One of my favorite short films, which I saw as a child was “The Red Balloon”. I think the melancholic and innocent spirit of that film inhabits “One Rat Short.” Alex Weil, Director .

Really interesting footage of colorful hummingbirds hunting and feeding in slow motion and HD. This installment features some amazingly colorful irridescent males of several species; Allen’s, Black-Chinned, and Anna’s hummingbirds, up close and with their head-dresses all lit up, as well as some very cool shots of females hunting (and catching!) small bugs in mid-air! HD footage shot with a Canon HF100 HD camcorder (note the strange wing bending effects are an artifact of the HD camera’s high speed shutter, NOT the birds’ wings themselves). Slow motion footage filmed with a Casio EX-F1 high speed camera at 300 and 600fps rates. The music is “Intro” from the “Random” CD by Technician (yours truly).
